[...] Title : Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More Author : Joe Vitale Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Highly Purifying Stuff in a Toxic World I had first come across Dr. Hew Len’s work in healing a ward full of criminally insane patients on the Disappearance of the Universe discussion group. The amazing thing about his healing technique was that he never actually met these people, he would instead look within himself to whatever it was that was causing this outward manifestation of illness and negativity, knowing that everyone and everything is ultimately One and connected (as any spiritual guru will tell you). He knew he was, at some level, ultimately responsible for the issue. He used an ancient Hawaiin technique called Ho’oponopono to cleanse the negative feelings that came up in him as he thought about these people by using the same 4 phrases over and over (”I love you, I’m sorry, please forgive me, thank you”). As he did so, he was evoking his higher Self, or Divinity, to remove the negative feelings, and replace them with its Self (namely Pure Love). This had the effect of removing the negative programs that were running in these ‘criminally insane’ people so that gradually they were able to live normal lives again. This book then is a great coverage of this remarkably simple technique, and the fact that all it boils down to in life is to cleanse, cleanse, cleanse our negative memories, feelings and data so that we can become one with the Divine and inspired by It/Him (as opposed to dictated by decisions formed by our fretful conscious minds). We are a sum total of our memories, and bound by interhuman programs handed down to us over millenia, so to clear and cleanse these means unbounded joy and freedom, and Oneness with the Divine, our ultimate goal in life! This is a MUST READ by even the most hardened and skeptical of souls!!!! Do yourself a favour: go release yourself!! Title : Unleash the Warrior Within: Develop the Focus, Discipline, Confidence and Courage You Need to Achieve Unlimited Goals Author : Richard Machowicz Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : A Fantastic Book that gives you the kick up the ass Its not everyday you find someone writing on subjects they have personally , truly mastered.Richard takes you through his experiences as a Navy Seal and shows you how to face the challenges you face in life. A fantastic book I would recommend to anyone , Thank you for this book Richard. Title : The Life You Were Born to Live: Finding Your Life Purpose Author : Dan Millman Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : frighteningly accurate I would not normally even approach such a book, if it were not lent to me by someone whom I trust and admire so much.I consider myself a skeptic, but found the information given incredibly accurate, and specific. This book is a little unsettling as it does not fit with my understanding of the universe. I deny neither the rational nor the mystical, yet this book’s placing between the two was uncomfortable for me. It is beyond my understanding that what seem such arbritary divisions of people can be so squarely and accurately categorized. But if the universe fitted entirely with my dull and tiny understanding, there would be no life either. Title : Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More Author : Joe Vitale Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Really good book! I agree with the person that says that this book content “fat”, things could be omited, but leaving all these things out, the book is great. His conversations with Dr. Len are very valuable information from first hand. I cannot avoid remember the book “a course of miracles” and see how many things are in common. Or remembering about how schamans say that we live in a world surrounded by corpses because we do not think that anything is alive. how we create our own reality and how we can change it, without anybody else, just been 100% responsable of everything that is in our lifes. This book goes beyond the secret, beyond the law of attraction. It is goes to the core of the self. I would recomended this book with my eyes close. Title : Be Your Own Life Coach: How to Take Control of Your Life and Achieve Your Wildest Dreams Author : Fiona Harrold Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Still feeling the effects 5 years on! I read this books nearly 5 years ago and it changed my life forever. I was not satisfied with my life or relationship and this book asked me all the questions I had been putting off asking myself. I left my partner, set up a new life for myself in London and have since had all sorts of incredible adventures. Whenever I get stuck in life I always ask myself those life changing questions; If I was living my dream life what would I be doing? How far away is my life from that now? What do I need to do now to move towards it? A life changer for definite! This is the best book i’ve ever read! Ladies and gents, achieving success is not as hard as we think! All I can say; read this book, you will NOT regret it! Best wishes to all of you! Title : Screw It, Let’s Do It: Lessons in Life (Quick Reads) Author : Sir Richard Branson Rating : 2 Stars out of 5. Summary : Get the full story! I have read Richard Branson biography, Losing my Virginity only recently and so this book contains nothing new…too bad i bought this one. Although cheap it’s not really worth the money i have to admit. Go for his book, Losing my Virginity and you will get your money’s worth! I don’t understand the marketing strategy, if they even had one with this one! Title : S.U.M.O. (Shut Up, Move On): The Straight-Talking Guide to Creating and Enjoying a Brilliant Life Author : Paul McGee Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Outstand Book To Get You On the Right Track I found Paul’s book to be a wonderfully easy book to read. I needed to pause after each chapter so that I could dwell and soak up the insightful material. I bought another copy for my friend to have. It is a must have!!! Title : A Lifetime of Secrets: A Postsecret Book Author : Frank Warren Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Tell me a secret! Until I read this book, I only knew PostSecret from Frank Warren’s blog which is on my weekly must-read list. I had resisted buying the previous books in the series because so often what’s intriguing a few at a time becomes cloying when presented in a book. This was not the case with A LIFETIME OF SECRETS: A POSTSECRET BOOK. I couldn’t put it down until I’d read it through, and it left me feeling introspective and deeply connected. For those not familiar with PostSecret, it began as a community art project in which Frank Warren (”America’s most trusted stranger”) invited people to send in secrets on decorated postcards. Every week he posts twenty of these anonymous postcards on his blog, PostSecret.com; a collection has traveled internationally as an art exhibit; and this is the fourth book of collected secrets. So many heart-rending postcards! People share their alienation, anger, fear, desire, and even pride. Why do they send their secrets to Frank? Would you? Have you? I haven’t (and won’t), but something about the secrets has huge sympathetic appeal. There’s nothing new in human nature and we all carry the seeds of all these secrets. Some resonate in us more than others, but can you really say that any of the feelings expressed are completely alien? A LIFETIME OF SECRETS is the fourth book in the series. It’s arranged roughly by the age of the secret-sharer, and this theme is certainly effective; you can, however, open it to any page and count on feeling a sense of kinship with the writer. I hope to keep this book for a while and will probably turn its pages many times. It’s inevitable that some day I’ll hear a friend mention something and I’ll say, there’s this book I HAVE to share with you; and they’ll share it with someone else and I’ll never see it again. And that’s as it should be. (My secret: I hardly ever return books people lend me!) [...] Title : Motivational Interviewing: Preparing People for Change Author : William R. Miller Rating : 3 Stars out of 5. Summary : Short-term benefits Miller and Rollnick have systematised a number of motivational enhancement techniques which have been used, intuitively, by therapists for several decades. In doing so, they have performed a valuable service. As a therapist working with addicted individuals in Cambridge, I have been using the Rollnick-Miller synthesis of MI for some years now - in conjunction with ‘cycle of change’ methodology. The following are my principal observations. Through the use of these MI techniques, I have had some success in helping clients to move from the ‘pre-contemplation’ stage of the cycle of change to the stage of ‘contemplation’. Sessions and strategies of Motivational Interviewing have also proved useful in expediting progress from contemplation, through preparation, to action. I have found, however, that there are three main problems with Motivational Interviewing. Firstly, it has proved relatively ineffective unless repeatedly reinforced and combined with other therapeutic interventions. Secondly the benefits thus gained take a long period of time to become evident. Thirdly these benefits are often of short duration. In its application to addiction, MI does not seem to reduce significantly the incidence of relapse. For these reasons, I now use MI only in the initial stages of therapy. Thereafter, in order to help clients to maintain recovery, I have reverted to the use of more prescriptive techniques - in particular, CBT and Twelve-Step Facilitation. ‘Motivational Interviewing’ is a very expensive book for the slender results that it yields. Borrow it from a public library, if you can. Then decide if you think it’s worth buying. Title : Psycho-cybernetics Author : Maxwell Maltz Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Astonishingly practical and enlightening This book is profoundly good. Do not let the artificial sounding title put you off - it contains chapter after chapter of elegantly written guidance for living. It is evident in the writing that this is the result of not years but decades of observation by Maltz. The chapter on negative emotional habits is in itself worth the money. I bought the book to try to resolve 11 years of tension headaches. After reading teh first chapter, I stopped reading in order to try out some ideas. The headaches are improving, but almost as importantly, I have learnt so much more about myself. Not speculative, extrapolated ideas of the author, but the result of close observations of patients who were councelled before cosmetic surgery. In many cases, the intended facial surgery was canceled, to be replaced by surgery of attitude. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Title : It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be Author : Paul Arden Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : It’s not how good it is, but how good you want it to be! This is a very witty, imaginative and thought-provoking read! It will push you to go that extra-mile and to aim high. And as a bonus, you get some savvy business and career advice! Highly recommended! Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens: The Ultimate Teenage Success Guide Author : Sean Covey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : A truly wicked book… I picked up this book merely because I had heard a lot about the seven habits of highly effective people. I don’t think I really expected to learn anything from it. I guess I was, and still am really, the archetypal know it all teenager who doesn’t need any help with anything. However, this book shows you life strategies that really do work. Some of the things in it are so simple that you wonder why you never thought like that before. This is a great book for teenagers, because we are often probably more likely to listen to a book than to a person. [...] Doug Miller’s book helps to reverse this processby teaching us the benefits of positivity. We all know people who appear postive and with such positivity goes success. Not necessarily always in their work but in their lives. The book draws upon the experiences of self motivated people whose lives have taken off because of their attitude and their postive approach to everything they do.There are plenty of techniques with the 192 pages to help the most stubborn pessimist. An ideal present for a disaffected offspring going through an identity crisis. Title : Sink Reflections Author : Marla Cilley Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Get rid of your clutter and your cleaning lady… Discovered the Flylady.net website last year, and bought the book soon afterwards. Since then, our house (and world) has been turned around. A simple system to keep the house clean and uncluttered. Nothing extraordinary, not rocket science, just common sense. But it makes keeping house fun and easy - never thought I’d say that!!! The system might sound a bit crazy at first (drying/shining your sink every night), but give it a shot for a week and you’ll be converted. Buy the book to keep by your bedside, but make sure you sign up for the (free) e-mail service, to get you truly on your way. http://www.flylady.net Title : Screw It, Let’s Do It: Lessons in Life (Quick Reads) Author : Sir Richard Branson Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. [...] Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Author : Stephen R Covey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Thought-provoking This is a thought-provoking book based on clear principles that can guide us in managing our time. There are many wise ideas contained in the pages of this book. As an example, I learned that efficiency is something that is appropriate with tasks but with people especially family members you can’t be efficient and slot people in as you think best. Instead it is about effectiveness. So you have to give family members the time they need. Another gem is that you can’t balance life at times you have to prioritize according to your values. So a mother (or father) who wants to stay home with their kids when they are young, may need to focus on home instead of career until the kids are older. The goal of balance would be inappropriate for that situation. Mr. Covey also makes it clear the importance of following the compass instead of the clock. This is an excellent book that people need to read because it gives business direction but from a higher perspective that you rarely find in most literature out there. I also recommend the “8th Insight” also by Covey, “Your Erroneous Zones” by Wayne Dyer, “Nexus” by Deborah Morrison Arvind Singh and “Lateral Thinking” by Edward De Bono. All these book offer unique insights. Title : Born to Win: Transactional Analysis with Gestalt Experiments Author : Muriel James Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : The meaning of life….. If your searching to understand people, or why you are like you are then read this book. Parent, Adult and child is in us all. Look back to when you were young to see why you are like you are today - your blueprint - there from the age of 5! If your into reading information like this then I suggest you also read the original Born to Win by James and Jongeward, or I’m OK your OK, Thomas. Title : Born to Win: Transactional Analysis with Gestalt Experiments Author : Muriel James Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : You Must Have This Book! Anyone who want to know themshelves, thier friends, and the people around them in thier lives-must have this book! I enjoy reading it! This book is a Must-Have for Everyone! Title : The Richest Man in Babylon Author : George S. Clason Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Simple and effective I’ve been hopeless with money since I first laid hands on it. I was in debt up to my eyeballs and spending whatever I earned and more. But with the simple concepts in this book, I am paying off my debt steadily and actually have savings for the first time in my life. I highly recommend this easy/quick read as a life changer. Title : Sink Reflections Author : Marla Cilley Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Excellent! Great book, I was actually looking for something else entirely when I came across this book and so glad I did. My house has always looked like a bomb had hit it I have a had a running battle with it every day, even when I was a stay at home mum I could never sort it out. This book is the ‘lightbulb’ moment and I’m really gradually getting it all sorted and so painlessly and dare I say actually fun…if you don’t get inspiration from this book then you probably are not yet ready to declutter your life, I talked to my sister about it and she hasn’t yet been able to see how it can help her, still very negative ‘I don’t have the time@ blah blah; I go to work full time and have 2 kids at home, she is on her own and not at work, she has even comented on how tidy, clean, lovely my kitchen is all the time and can’t imagine how I manage it, I tell her that once I have washed up after tea (she has a dishwasher, while I wash by hand) it takes me 15 mins to wipe the sides, sweep the floor and shine my sink then I spend the rest of the evening watching tv or reading; she doesn’t belive me but it’s true. My bedroom is becomming the haven I always wanted it to be, no piles of clothes that need to be ironed and/or put away, bed is made every morning and I no longer have sneezing fits every time I go in there due to overload of dust! I now spend time in my room relaxing while the kids watch tv or play music downstairs. All I can say is if you are ready to really sort out your home, open your mind and read this book. I have been on the website too and it’s great. Summary : Wonderful book I found this book very helpful indeed and many of its techniques have been successful in my practice. Title : The Richest Man in Babylon Author : George S. Clason Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : the Richest Man in Babylon To all of you out there who dread the drop of the bills on your doormat when you go home, read this and your life will be transformed. We live in a buy now and pay later society and this particular little habit is catching up on us all. This little book, though written in old English, is fun and easy to read. It’s principles can be hard to apply but worth every bit of effort involved. This is your key to financial abundance. In the Secret all the Masters told of setting up a debt repayment plan and then getting on with life and watch the miracles start to happen. This little book tells you about finances and how to tackle them. Put this advice into practice and then watch your own miracles start to happen. I know, I am advising spending money on a book but sometimes you really do have to spend in order to save. This book really makes sense. Title : Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time Author : Keith Ferrazzi Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Connect for the Joy of It All! Never Eat Alone is a rare, detailed glimpse into how those with no special access can connect to those they want to meet. For many people who are good at connecting, this activity becomes a way of life. It’s a profession and a hobby. As such, connecting can become all consuming. Many will find that aspect of Mr. Ferrazzi’s story to be unattractive. But I found his candor in this regard to be refreshing. If you step back from his enthusiasm for connecting, the mental attitudes and processes he describes are just what everyone needs to use who wants to be better connected and accomplish more. All of us know more than any one of us. If you take two equally talented young people in any field, the one who is better at connecting will live a more successful life than one who tries to go at everything as a lone ranger.I have known dozens of master connectors. They all do some variation of what Mr. Ferrazzi describes in this book. Here is how I would distill those lessons:1. Decide who you want to meet to further your objective of accomplishing more.2. Learn more about the person.3. Find what you can do to help that person in an area where they care.4. Develop a strategy to meet briefly face to face.5. Share what you want to do to help when you meet.6. Stay in touch with more ways to help.7. Attend events where other master connectors attend and link into fields which are not naturally yours by becoming acquainted with these master connectors.8. Study those who are very good at this.If you keep in mind the sheer pleasure of making a difference as you do this, you’ll soon be a superb connector. I recommend undertaking this task on behalf of something you are passionate about such as a charity you support. One of the best parts of this book is that Mr. Ferrazzi is generous in sharing his mistakes. The world doesn’t end for you as a connecting queen or king if you offend a poo-bah. You just pick yourself up and do better next time.I liked his humility about his limitations in other fields. Peter Drucker would have approved of Mr. Ferrazzi’s decision to work on what he has a talent and love for, connecting, rather than try to become more competent at things that are difficult and unpleasant for him . . . like quantitative analysis. The story about how he got his start at Deloitte is worth the price of the book.Another strength of the book can be found in the excellent description of why people find President Clinton to be so compelling in person.Skip books about networking and relationship building. Read Never Eat Alone instead! Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Author : Stephen R. Covey Rating : 2 Stars out of 5. Summary : A number of years I read this book a number of years ago as part of a semester long class with it as the main teaching tool. From what I remember it provides good insights into time management, prioritizing tasks and breaking down a goal into bite size pieces so that a person isn’t overwhelmed by the size of what needs to be done. [...] Summary: excellent self-improvement guide, won’t work for everyone. Title : Goals! How to Get Everything You Want - Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible Author : Brian Tracy Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Insightful! The author grins, distinguished, gray-haired, gray-suited, from the dust jacket of this book, looking like everything a hokey, hustling confidence man should be. The book’s subtitle, promising “everything you want,” seems designed to provoke skepticism. But, hey, it’s the new age: give this the benefit of the doubt - the confidence at stake here is yours. The core recommendation is simple and undeniably effective: define your goals, write them down, make a plan to achieve them and work on the plan every day. How could you fail if you really did this? Whether you would achieve “everything you want” is another matter, but you can’t fault the method. Putting it to work is the hard part. To preview the gist of the book or review the meat of it, we recommend the convenient bullet charts that concisely repeat: take charge of your life, set goals, plan, implement and progress. If the message is repeated often enough, you might even write something down and just do it. Title : S.U.M.O. Covey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Well read Bestseller After the Bible, no other single book has shaped my leadership mentality and disciplines like this one by Covey. I first read it in 1991 and his recommendations brought it all together for me. Success in effective living begins with Private Victory (Be Proactive, Begin with the end in mind, Put first things first) then moves on to Public Victory (Think Win-Win, Seek first to understand…then to be understood, Synergize), and finally back into personal effectiveness by Sharpening the Saw. These concepts are essential to weeding through all the fluff of the information age. This book also contains fantastic practical advice on living out one’s priorities (”Exercise integrity at the moment of choice”) and teamwork (”Defend those who are absent”). Title : S.U.M.O. Summary : Great Book with Practical Advice I just wanted to congratulate you on your SUMO book. It was a great read and by far and away the best in the self help category that I have read recently.I coach people for a living and read a lot of these types of books and believe that many fail because they are too abstract or too difficult to put into practice. Your book, however, is full of practical things you can do straight away to start to make a difference.I particularly liked the ‘Ditch Doris Day’ chapter. [...] Although I’m a sceptic mostly, I’m a firm believer that numerology is of the - if not the - most accurate way of describing the path etc. of a person. Dan M.’s book is based on the life path aspects of numerology with some differences, such as "adding" "10" "12" numbers. It is still uncanny how accurate it was in depicting my number (I couldn’t say if it’s exactly as accurate as numerology, or even slightly more so!) and I’m convinced that "J. Balbirnie" will see exactly what I mean when the time comes. Dan M. says himself at the end of his book, that one reader wrote to him, first thinking his book was rubbish, it however ended up making a lot of sense to him a few years down the path!Excellent reading, I highly recommend it! Summary : A recommended goal guide If you are serious about setting and achieveing your goals then this book is a must read for you. I read this book at the beginning of 2004 and if not for anything else it has motivated me to consistently set daily goals. Brian Tracy delivers this book in his characteristic simple, clear and easy to understand style which makes reading very enjoyable. It breaks down the rocket science of setting goals into something readily achieveable. I would also recommend this book as a personal development resource for companies to give their employees. [...] Read this book. It will help you to find them. Title : Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised Author : Napoleon Hill Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : The Version of Think and Grow Rich to Rule Them All! This is one book I always get something new out of with every subsequent reading, even if I only flip to a random page. All you have to do is decide what you want and like so many have discovered, this book will show you the steps to get it. Ross Cornwell’s version restores chunks of texts removed from the 60’s Ballantine paperback (’The Secret’ enthusiasts will be pleased with what they’ll find). This version also provides extensive endnotes to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Dr. Hill’s 20 year research into the science of success. Unlike footnotes in other editions, the endnotes also allow for uninterrupted reading of the main text. Order multiple copies of this one because it’ll wear out from use very quickly and consider any copy you lend out as a gift because I can’t imagine there’s any way they’ll willingly return it back to you. Title : Getting It Done: How to Lead When You’re Not in Charge Author : Roger Fisher Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : filled with powerful tools and ideas Fisher, Sharp and Richardson have an astonishing ability to design simple but powerful tools for clear thinking and focused action. Title : Be Your Own Life Coach: How to Take Control of Your Life and Achieve Your Wildest Dreams Author : Fiona Harrold Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : A life-changing book Fiona’s fabulous book has confirmed in my mind that I want to become a life-coach. Her style is easy to read, no-nonsense and very persuasive. She has inspired me to change my attitude on many topics and since I have read the book I have become 100% happier with myself and my life. She makes you realise that,if you’re unhappy, the person that is responsible for changing that is YOU. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to do something different in their lives but can’t quite muster up the courage to achieve it. I would also highly recommend it to budding life-coaches like myself. Title : Getting It Done: How to Lead When You’re Not in Charge Author : Roger Fisher Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Stirring and self-developing book I read and read this book as an IT professional and really learnt about most of the problems I’ve been encountering. I hence moved from complaint to contributive proposition and got self-confident in any further action taken since. Moreover, most of the examples produced are common to major enterprises. I am convinced things could be better in some enterprises, had the management read this sort of best-practice-minded book. I have started disseminating the book around me and hope it’ll help go ahead solving problems and sharing knowledge. It’s clear problems mostly arise due to a lack of managerial culture. Title : Quantum Success: The Astounding Science of Wealth and Happiness Author : Sandra Anne Taylor Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Scientifically verifiable Quantum Success is all about personal life transformation and empowerment based on the latest scientifically verifiable findings of quantum physics. Sandra Taylor clearly explains how to tap into the power that can manifest your dreams so that you can live a more authentic, totally self-expressed and joyous life. The strategies are simple, practical and sure to create amazing results. Some further reading that I’m sure you will find of interest is a recently released new age novel, a psychological/spiritual adventure about compassion, life transformation, and self-empowerment “Nexus: A Neo Novel” and “The Saint, the Surfer, and the CEO” - remarkable stories about life transformation. This is the best book i’ve ever read! Ladies and gents, achieving success is not as hard as we think! All I can say; read this book, you will NOT regret it! Best wishes to all of you! Title : Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time Author : Keith Ferrazzi Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Very practical I read Never Eat Alone after attending a Keith Ferrazzi seminar. So I was already familiar with his approach to networking. The book provides a deeper and more structured perspective to relationship management in various settings - in the office, before/during/after a seminar, on the plane and many more. My main takeaway from the book has been ‘even very small details make a big difference to build your network and you should build it before you need it’. ‘Do your homework, share your passions, follow up or fail, build your brand’ are some great sections from the book - very useful and practical. Title : E-myth Mastery: The Seven Essential Disciplines for Building a World Class Company Author : Michael Gerber Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Zen and the Art of Entrepreneurship The book is about the ‘Self’ as businessman/woman. The key is the, periodic, precisely ordered and focused exercises. These are questions, Michael Gerber, aims at the heart and soul of being/becoming an entrepreneur. And so one is, if one is open to the questioning, able to pinpoint within oneself the barriers to becoming a truly creative person. Then, after self-reflection, one may come from a space, which was previously closed and oppressive, to an open and experiential one. There is a storyline in the book showing clearly how the entrepreneur becomes so easily a robot and a machine in the current business ethos. So how does one stay alive and renewed in what is essentially a mechanised business world? Well, this book tackles this dilemma - by making one confront oneself and ones susceptibility, and then enabling one to recover integrity and creativity from within oneself. Because, ultimately, it is not the techniques and methods which make for success, but who one is and how well one knows oneself, and continues to discover oneself. The book has its highest value in enabling self-knowledge as an entrepreneur. Michael Gerber in the book does, however, always present the avenues and methods for success in the greatest of practical detail (for example on sales he covers internet portal, direct mail etc. etc. etc. etc. - it’s all covered - with advantages and disadvantages and practical application). There are downloadable worksheets, all very ordered and practical where one can try out, test and keep records about ones experiments with oneself, the business and the marketplace. I would have liked to say more on the practical side of the book, because it is hugely practical and applicable. But it is a year since I read a borrowed copy and don’t have it in front of me. I am now ordering a copy for myself. Entrepreneurship, in my view, is a difficult business. It is one of the greatest challenges to oneself. It can be a disheartening and even degrading experience. Thank you, Michael Gerber, for enabling me to know the dangers, and for giving me clarity and understanding at the beginning of my new business. Finally, this is not a quick fix book, although because of the practical detail it can be used like one. But beware, for the book is about a journey one decides to make/take - and there are many adventures to be had along the way! :) Title : Think and Grow Rich Author : Napoleon Hill Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : One of the best self-improvement books ever I was originally recommended this book by a colleague who I saw reading it. His copy was well-used and creased to bits - he mentioned that he always kept in in his briefcase for any journies etc when he could pick it up. After starting to read myself, I was amazed at the lessons in the book - it really starts you thinking about what you want in life, and more importantly, how you are actually going to make it happen. A lot of the book is also commonsense, but I guess that is why I found it so appealing and easy to read. I also particularly liked the case-studies, and I found the author very easy to read. One slight downside for me was the ties towards the end of the book to the authors own religious beliefs. While I have an open mind on these things, the way it was put over wasn’t really for me, and I lost a bit of interest in these parts. In summary though, its a book I have gone back to time and time again when I need a bit of inspiration or focus. Its also great for getting your positive thinking together both inside and outside of work. [...] Title : Change Your Thoughts Meditations: Do the Tao Now! Author : Wayne W. Dyer Rating : 2 Stars out of 5. Summary : This is an acquired taste As meditation is a personal thing and everyone is drawn to different methods I thought I’d share a bit more about this cd. It’s basically a two line reading of each essay(81 essays) followed by a very loud “DAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”. Think “AUM” but substitute DAO. Personally, it’s too loud and in my face. I was hoping for a gentle reading of each verse as I have the book and have really enjoyed it(see my review). This is just an opinion as I know a lot of people like the “AUM”. Duz it come with de AUM? No, it comes with the “DAO”. Title : Change Your Thoughts Change Your Life CD: Living the Wisdom of the Tao Author : Dr Wayne W Dyer Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Magnificient Book! Tao Te Ching written by the mythic figure Lao-tzu contains wisdom that is difficult to describe. As you read the words, they speak to you of a reality that is beyond words and yet mysteriously transmitted through words. What a wonderful paradox! The words function to point to a reality beyond them. A reality that cannot be named or described but it can be felt as a presence in nature, in silence and in other spiritually moving moments of inspiration. Tao Te Ching describes this mysterious eternal Tao. The text of the Tao Te Ching frees us from intellectual grasping of ideas to the actual reality or presence beyond our mental constructs. Reality is often filtered by our mental screen and we often create a closed reality based on our mental perceptions, beliefs and prior conditioning. In the open words of Lao-tzu, we can experience reality itself as a Whole that is Indivisible and Mysterious. Lao-tzu’s teachings are simple and natural still our grasping mind finds them difficult. This is where Wayne’s book is indispensable for relating these teachings to contemporary understanding and making them accessible for Western readers. You can also sense Wayne’s sincerity in living the wisdom of the Tao and that gives his words conviction. He is not merely discussing abstract ideas but relating them to his own lived experiences. This is a magnificent book that every spiritual-seeker needs to have in their library for its inspiration and depth. I’ve also been reading an unusual spiritual novel about overcoming personal pain and finding your inner center called “Nexus: A Neo Novel.” Title : Making Your Thoughts Work for You Author : Wayne W. Dyer Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Uplifting and life changing stuff! I completly recommend this four cd set to anyone and everyone! I have had phobias and depression for years which have completly ruled my life and have read many self help books and seen many therapists, but listening to this CD set once has completly changed my mindset and outlook on life! Through Dr.Wayne’s inspiriational and spiritual talking and Byron Katie’s NLP and questioning your thoughts work, I really feel a new beginning in my life has begun! I was left feeling uplifted, calm and confident and I feel now that I can begin to get my life back on track and am very exited about doing so! The CDs’ are recordings of a live seminar where Dr. Wayne is giving a very inspirational talk on balance and living your true life path to thousands of people live, and then later on Byron Katie takes over and gets the audience to fill in some worksheets and gets three stressed and upset people up from the audience, works with them and shows how to realise the problem situation, deal with it and embrace it by realsing the part you are playing in it and then how to change your view of it and how you deal with it. They all left happy, uplifted and relaxed! Then Dr. Wayne talks some more and they both take questions from the audience. I thouroughly recommend this to anyone, stressed, anxious, depressed or just wanting to attain some new wisdom. If you open your mind to it,it can be life changing stuff! :-) Title : Self-esteem Affirmations: Motivational Affirmations for Building Confidence and Recognizing Self-worth Author : Louise L. Hay Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : well done The subliminals are quite good, what I would expect of such a learned author. I tried this CD to see what sort of affirmation to use when feeling less confidant than normal, which isn’t very often. I just needed something to bolster me for when dealing with those in authority, and this sure did work, thanks. Title : The Richest Man in Babylon Author : George S. Clason Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Honest to goodness common sense. Straight forward and good honest advice. Despite being set in an ancient civilisation the lessons within hold true from page one. Don’t make the mistake of dismissing the simple principles that the book extolls for you will find them written in much more complex a fashion in other books. I recommend this to all and suggest you give copies to your family (kids in particular) straight away. Title : Think and Grow Rich Author : Napoleon Hill Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Classic career wisdom accessibly explained Napoleon Hill, author of this 1920s classic, will remind you of an older, wiser, slightly wacky uncle who advises you about careers, life and love. This book is a wonderful collection of tips - many based on the ideas of Hill’s mentor Andrew Carnegie - that range from the practical (how to prepare a resume) to surprisingly New Age-like mystical talk about the infinite powers of the universe. Of course, like an old uncle, Hill can get long-winded and repetitive at times, but since he packs so much wisdom into his slender book, you will want to reread it over and over again, repetitions and all. We recommend his classic compendium to everyone who is dangling from the career ladder and wondering how to prosper. Title : Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-free Play Author : Neil A. Fiore Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Informative and practical I gained a great deal of insight from this book. It helped me to see that I’m putting my life on hold through being a perfectionist. And it has given me lots of help in finding a way forward. A new ‘me’ is emerging as a result. Well worth a read. Title : Zero Limits: The Secret Hawaiian System for Wealth, Health, Peace, and More Author : Joe Vitale Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : A total mind shift! Total accountability! Freedom Dr Joe Vitale intriguingly documents his own journey of mental and emotional transformation and how he came to understand the Hawaian method of attracting health, wealth and happiness. As you read he masterfully takes you through his memories as if you were there experiencing each it with him. You find yourself asking the same questions, having the same feelings and having the same revelations that he had as your perspective is dramatically changed. An insightful read that is well worth every moment! I couldn’t put it down. [...] I got a lot out of this book and I think that the message it contains is a very important one. Title : It’s Not How Good You Are, It’s How Good You Want To Be Author : Paul Arden Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Motivational? This book by Paul Arden has been dubbed by many to be a fantastic motivational book that is capable of turning people into super human geniuses. In reality this book takes only an hour or less to read through and unless you really attempt to apply any new ideas will be a waste of your time. Much of the book to me was useless and some of it I already knew, however it is still a good book for getting you thinking in another way. Really the author is telling you to throw out everything you think you know and listen to his ideas of what made him successful, and some of the ideas are very good. I have found a few of the ideas in this book very useful and have used the ideas such as ‘Do not seek praise seek criticism’ are simple but good. Many people are unable to open up and be wrong and make mistakes and learn from them, especially people in positions such as management who feel they have to be seen as always correct in front of their staff. This book really is an individual thing, It may be of massive help to you or you may completely disagree with the ideas put forward. Either way you have to look at this book as one mans ideas and decide for yourself whether to apply them or take them onboard in your life. Worth a look at the price being asked for it. Title : Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-free Play Author : Neil A. Fiore Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Helps you understand and overcome a crippling habit I’ve read hundreds of self-help books, but this blows almost everything else out of the water. This book helped me to understand the reasons why I procrastinate and showed how this habit leads to worry, loss of confidence and chronic underperformance - even in areas that I had not considered to be linked to procrastination. It’s like suffering a mysterious illness and feeling that, at last, there is a proper diagnosis and cure. It even shows how the classic shaming and bullying tactics others use to ’spur us on’ only serve to fuel the emotions which block natural performance and success. This is now available on audiobook, read by the author. Play it on the way to work and improve your performance! Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Author : Stephen R Covey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Author : Stephen R. Covey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : filled with important information Not that I’m an expert in the subject, but I’m guessing that this isn’t your typical success book. In many ways it’s a general purpose psychology book, dealing with such things as motivation, organizational skills, and how to deal with stress. It’s chock full of seemingly unique information, and interesting quotes and tidbits. For example, it states “Management is efficiency in climbing the ladder of success; leadership determines whether the ladder is leaning against the right wall.” The book isn’t boring or repetitive, and is written in a pleasing, conversational manner. Everyone should give this a read, not just those interested in business success. Author of Adjust Your Brain: A Practical Theory for Maximizing Mental Health. [...] Even the title conveys a subtle message and indicates an interesting read rather than just ‘How to Network’ which it could have been called. You don’t have to be in Sales or Marketing to read it - I’m not - it explains how some people network badly by being selfish and self promoting and valuable points on networking ‘etiquette’.It helps you not to be a ‘wallflower’ in a room full of strangers - without being over bearing and trying to collect a fistful of business cards. Rather the authors concentrate on the ‘personal’ touches, so, if you are looking for deep rooted theories and phrases to ‘learn’ its not for you.It does indicate the right buttons to push and how to treat people - no matter what their position - in a polite and courteous manner to maximise results.A great read truly reccommended. Summary : A top book on procrastination Once in a while a book comes along that makes perfect sense. This is a book written by someone who is extremely wise on this subject. A sage-like quality about it. No surprise that Neil has studied this subject for years. The quality in this book shows.Nearly all the books I’ve read have failed in their mission to get the reader motivated. This book is different. Everyone is unique and everyone has their own entry points. For me I loved the idea of designing one’s day around what one really enjoys, leisure, hobbies, exercise etc. Then peppered around this one build’s half hour slots of time to do some work towards one’s goal. This book builds on the ideas given. Not neccessarily in chronological order. More a 3D model. A layer that also really clicked for me was that instead of focusing on finishing this task, project, goal one has a series of starts. One Starts towards the goal for 30 minutes. Then after this a reward, some fun in life. Then back to the next 30 minute session. What’s reccommended is to take a 2 minute pre-project focus to get the mind in the right vibration(my word) before beginning. Procrastinating uses up valuable energy. It’s a protection of sorts, but it takes energy to procrastinate. The stories of clients in the book makes one feel that this is more common that we tend to think. Some suffer more than others. For me it’s been around for 75% of my life and got worse over the last few years.Having taken voluntary redundancy last November, I thought starting a new career was a simple affair with all this time available. It wasn’t time, it was an out of control procrastination junkie. However, it’s not always so obvious. In Barbara De Angelis’s book Confidence, she speaks of 3 types of confidence, behavioral, spiritual and emotional. In my view if you’ve got procrastiation as the savior of your pain, you will most assurely lack behavioral confidence in yourself. This will be money so well spent. It’s like having an expert right in your hands, helping you every step of the way.For me I realised that I wasn’t living a life of fun, I was still waiting for something to happen before my life begun. Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Author : Stephen R Covey Rating : 2 Stars out of 5. [...] Title : Screw It, Let’s Do It: Lessons in Life (Quick Reads) Author : Sir Richard Branson Rating : 2 Stars out of 5. Summary : Quick read, shallow story …. I’m reviewing this book, not the man. The book is so concise (big print, designed for emergent readers) that even though you get through it cover to cover in just two hours there is very little satisfaction to be had. It’s a collection of snippets. Those who composed it do not even do us the service of keeping it to a decent chronological flow. It leaps back and forth chapter by chapter. In compressing so many deeds into so few pages, I was left with the perception that Richard Branson was very smug; I did this good deed, then I had this great adventure, then I set up and sold a big business for a large profit, then I brokered a hostage-saving deal with Saddam Hussein, then I persuaded Elton John to sing at Princess Diana’s funeral. I am sure that he is not the smug man that this book might lead you to believe. I would guess that you’d be better served (and learn more) by reading a fuller story. PS I had to laugh at the Scottish reviewer of this book who worked out that he’d gotten just two words to the penny! Laugh out Loud!! Title : The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change Author : Stephen R Covey Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Title : Goals! How to Get Everything You Want - Faster Than You Ever Thought Possible Author : Brian Tracy Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. I heard of this book in `Rich Dad, Poor Dad’ by KIYOSAKI for the first time. I came to realize that this book has been considered as sort of a Bible in terms of getting rich, when I checked the `customer reviews’ on the website of Amazon. So I decided to give it a try. Indeed, this book may be an eye-opener for those who just wish to become rich without thinking twice. However, frankly speaking, the so-called “secrets” as follows in this book are nothing new at all for me and maybe for you as well. Having said that, even you’ve already known the `secrets’, this book will definitely inspire you if you read on page by page. It provides you with an opportunity to converse with yourself, by which you may become a person with deep conviction of getting rich. That’s the power of this book. 1) Discipline 2) Dedication/persistence 3) Hardwork/determination 4) Practice practice practice 5) Confidence 6) Ambition along with personality Again, the `secrets’ in this book are simple. What matters to you is the process of reading on. Title : Born to Win: Transactional Analysis with Gestalt Experiments Author : Muriel James Rating : 4 Stars out of 5. Summary : Well it’s a classic really Great summary of games players and how people interact, with clear examples, structured approach etc. Far better than Games People Play or I’m OK you’re OK. [...] I got a lot out of this book and I think that the message it contains is a very important one. Title : Never Eat Alone: And Other Secrets to Success, One Relationship at a Time Author : Keith Ferrazzi Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Masterful Networking Tactics Author Keith Ferrazzi is a master networker who claims that his Palm Pilot holds the names of 5,000 people who will take his phone calls. That’s a powerful claim. Starting as a self-made man of humble origins, Ferrazzi developed his social network by helping people and by developing and mastering the techniques for networking. Here, he shares his methods. His light, engaging and entertaining story will motivate those who want to enhance their social and business friendships. The author advocates generosity as the key to success. That’s a radical business concept, but he claims it works. It’s certainly worth a try. We recommend this book to people who want to be more social, make friends and expand their business connections. It should also prove invaluable for those who are sick of sitting at home on Saturday nights. Title : Now Habit: A Strategic Program for Overcoming Procrastination and Enjoying Guilt-free Play Author : Neil A. Fiore Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Balancing between Work and Play is the key The Now Habit is the best book on procrastination. It gives tools to attack the procrastination habit; more important, it asks you to schedule time for play (not just work) in your calendar. This, the author says, is very important. And then you are asked to stick to the schedule of play. Having this guilt free time for play frees up our mind to give quality time to ‘work’ part of our life. I have found the advice on the mark and very helpful. There are many more important nuggets of information like Reverse Calendar, 3D view of work, etc. which are also very helpful. One of the must read books definitely. Title : Influence: The Psychology of Persuasion Author : Robert Cialdini Rating : 5 Stars out of 5. Summary : Brilliant Book! A book you will keep going back to again and again. Worth more than 5 Stars. I’ve just finished this book. Wow it was mind blowing! I’m not going to reiterate all the brilliant reviews made about this book, suffice to say it is a useful guide for going into negotiations and other situations were undue and unfair influence might occur. For example, how to deal with dirty influence tricks or even just pushy salesmen, estate agents or recruitment consultants - you can see the tatics that are being used and side step them or use their tricks against them for your own advantage. An amazing book. Read it for your own sake.
